What is a CPS test?
CPS stands for “clicks per second” — a simple measure of how many times you can click your mouse in one second. A CPS test counts your total clicks over a fixed time window and divides by the seconds to give your average click speed.
Click speed matters most in games like Minecraft PvP, where faster clicking means more hits per second, and in idle/clicker games. It’s also just a fun way to benchmark your hand speed against friends.
What is a good CPS?
Based on a standard 5–10 second test, most people land between 5 and 7 CPS with normal clicking. Here’s how the ranges break down — longer tests run lower as your hand tires.

Clicking techniques
There’s more than one way to click fast. Here are the main techniques and the CPS they typically reach.
Regular clicking
~5–7 CPSOne finger, normal presses. Comfortable and sustainable for long sessions.
Jitter clicking
~10–14 CPSTensing your arm to vibrate the finger. Fast but tiring — don’t overdo it.
Butterfly clicking
~14–25 CPSAlternating two fingers on one button. Very high CPS, banned on some servers.
Drag clicking
~20–100+ CPSDragging a finger across the button so friction registers many clicks at once.
CPS ranges are typical, not guaranteed. Jitter and drag clicking can strain your hand — warm up and take breaks.
How to click faster
Start with a light, relaxed grip and keep your finger close to the button — short travel means faster clicks. Practising in short 5- or 10-second bursts builds speed without fatigue, and a good mouse with a light click helps a lot.
If you want to push past regular clicking, learn jitter or butterfly technique gradually. But listen to your hand: click speed isn’t worth an injury, so stop if you feel strain.
CPS Test FAQ
Common questions about clicks per second and this test.
Around 5–7 CPS is average for normal clicking. 7–10 is fast, and 10+ usually means you’re using jitter or butterfly technique. The competitive top is roughly 14+ CPS.
CPS = total clicks ÷ seconds. If you click 60 times in a 10-second test, that’s 6 CPS. Our test does this automatically and also shows your clicks each second.
The 5- and 10-second tests are the standard for raw speed. Longer 30–100 second tests measure endurance, since most people slow down as their hand tires.
Jitter clicking is tensing your forearm so your finger vibrates rapidly on the mouse button, reaching 10–14 CPS. It’s effective but can strain your hand, so use it carefully.
Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on the same mouse button, often hitting 14+ CPS. Some Minecraft servers detect and ban it, so check the rules before using it competitively.
Yes — in older Minecraft PvP, more clicks per second means more attacks land, up to the game’s hit cap. That’s why CPS tests are popular with Minecraft players.
If your clicks are almost perfectly evenly spaced or exceed a human-plausible rate, we flag a possible auto-clicker. Real human clicking always has natural timing variation.
